The project in detail.
Hepburn Architects developed a contemporary extension and remodelling strategy for this substantial detached property in Calthorpe, Birmingham.
The design introduces a striking two-storey side extension incorporating an integrated garage and a fully glazed feature gable. Vertical timber cladding adds warmth and texture, while dark grey metalwork and contemporary window frames create a strong architectural contrast.
Across the main elevation, the ground floor has been unified through a carefully composed palette of natural stone, dark vertical cladding and expansive glazing. The revised entrance is clearly defined within the new façade, creating a stronger sense of arrival and improving the overall balance of the property.
The result is a cohesive contemporary family home that retains the familiar form of the original building while introducing modern detailing, improved internal accommodation and a more confident architectural identity.
